Thought Control (A simple test for JW's)
by TD inin george orwell's novel 'nineteen eighty-four' the capitulation of the principal protagonist is portrayed in his willingness to assent to the proposition that two and two make five.
once he had denied objective reality, his mental conquest was complete and he was no longer truly the master of his own mind.
nineteen eighty-four is in many ways, a very depressing read.. a charge commonly leveled at jehovah's witnesses is that the type of mind control envisioned by orwell has been and continues to be used on them.

I know no one wants to die, but is it possible that wanting to live forever when nothing does is a bit greedy?
by gubberningbody in...not to mention unreasonable?.
i remember telling my mom when i was about 7 that i didn't want to die (it seemed to me that time was speeding down the track and i was fast headed for the grave) and she said..."don't worry, that won't happen for a long time.".
her response was honest, but i found that honesty unnerving.. i felt as if she'd just said to me--- "yes dear son, you are sitting on a powder keg, and yes the fuse is lit, but enjoy your ice cream cone.

Is the Watchtower an Apocalyptic or doomsday religion?
by jwfacts inimo the watchtower has a strong emphasis on eschatology and is one of the most prominent of the modern apocalyptic religions.
so i found it surprising to see the watchtower never uses the word eschatology applied to itself and claims not to be an apocalyptic religion.
startfragment.

Debator,
If Martha had understood the resurrection surely Christ would have just said, Yes!

Still Feeling Lost...What to Do Next?
by daringhart13 ini'm wondering how many of you still feeling a burning need to know god and have a relationship with him.. i am dealing with the horrible emotions of having faded, done some things that would be considered immoral, stopped praying (not sure i ever prayed right) and generally just feeling lost...... what have some of you done to get back on track?
i've been fading for a year and a half.
missing my first dc..... ugh.....having a crappy morning i guess...... just feel like i want to talk to god, but can't.. ironic, huh?

I remember sitting on the bed and thinking the few friends I had were never going to come round ever again. (I was right) I also felt a guilt in approaching God in prayer and concern about how I was going to raise my kids without it.
The guilt has gone. The kids haven't done too bad. My praying has improved and I feel I don't have all the answers I probably never will but I trust in Christ's mercy.
In Search of Christian Freedom helped me to see a different side to Christianity I'd not seen before. I've still got alot to learn.

by gubberningbody in...namely that the person is ever going to get married.. .

Can God forgive you for this, can he forgive you for adultery, can he forgive you for murder? With Christ all things are possible.
